Coordinate Reference System (CRS)
A local, regional, or global coordinate-based system used to locate geographical entities. A coordinate reference system defines a specific map projection, as well as transformations between different coordinate reference systems. In omlox™, a CRS can be either local and relative to a zone, or refer to a map projection using an EPSG code.
Fence

Defines a polygonal or circular boundary within an area for geofencing events anywhere on the globe using “real world” (geographic) coordinates. A geofence polygon may contain holes and have an extrusion.


Usage Examples

  • A polygonal region can be defined for a restricted area where a region entry event should be fired in case a user enters this region.

  • A circular region/radius can be defined for the location of an iBeacon for triggering entry/exit events based on a user’s proximity to the iBeacon

  • Polygonal areas can be defined to map manufacturing processes to their respective locations.

  • A polygonal region can be used as a buffer zone for collision detection

Fence Event

Triggered when a device enters or exits a geofence region. Events can be either a region entry or region exit event.


Fence events can be used to generate location analytics data such as:

  • Dwell time (time a device/user stayed within a region)
  • Flow graphs
  • Events per fence region (per time), e.g., people or products at a place during a specific time period.
Ground Control Point (GCP)
Maps a geographic (“GPS”) coordinate to a point of a local coordinate system that is used by the location technology providing location data for the zone.
Location
Comprises the coordinates of a region (position) as well as meta information that relate to it. E.g., a timestamp, source of the data, coordinate reference system (CRS), etc.
Location Provider
Refers to a specific locating hardware that can be tracked by a location system. For example, a UWB tag, a RFID tag, or a WiFi network interface.
Location SystemRepresents a RTLS (software and hardware-based systems), that can track Location Providers. A location system might use wireless signals (i.e. UWB, WiFi, BLE) or any other means (Magnetic fields, inertial sensors) to generate location information.
PositionA coordinate in 2 (x,y) or 3 (x,y,z) dimensions. An omlox™ position must be interpreted according to a coordinate reference system (CRS).
Real-Time Locating System
A system that can automatically identify and track the location of objects or people in real-time.
Trackable

Refers to an object or person in the real world, such as an e-ink display, an AGV, a drone, a worker with a smartwatch, etc. A trackable object can comprise several location providers (like UWB, WiFi, BLE, GPS, etc.), where each of the providers causes an update of the trackable location. A trackable may also have a shape.


A trackable can be one of two types:

  • A omlox™-compatible trackable knows its own location devices and self-assigns them on registration with the API.
  • A virtual trackable can be created using the API to manually combine multiple location technologies into one virtual trackable (e.g., combining a UWB tag and a WiFi interface for one trackable).
Zone
Describes an area of transformation that applies to RTLS (e.g. UWB, WiFi), proximity-based locating systems (e.g. RFID, BLE), as well as custom areas of measurement (e.g. for setting up a utility zone to measure locations using a laser distance meter and transforming locations to GPS coordinates). It is the common denominator between different locating technologies and thereby enables for processing location data according to the configured type of the zone and common meta information - in a standardized way.
